ALCHEMY

ALCHEMY

“Alchemy” group exhibition is also first exhibition of Between Art Lab 2015 Shanghai, which will proceed artistic communication from the view of corporality and spirituality in the universe.
Alchemy represents a primitive desire, which exists in the confrontation and covariation that have been made by the people through spirit and substances. “Alchemy” is as ancient chemical philosophy of human being, intended to transform substances through a chemical, physical and psychic method. Western alchemy believes that metal is the organism that has the soul, in the process of continuous improvement, which gradually develops into gold.

With the advance of quantum physics, cosmic big bang, superstring theory and other scientific theories, human cognition constantly gets updated and expanded. People are changing for the existence form of substance and spirit and their own sense organs.

“Alchemy” is as an old concept beyond the limits of time and represents a kind of confrontation and generality between human being and the world. Under the catalysis of this kind of antagonism, conquest desire of human being for substances and the pursuit of human being for the final perfect form of the substances are gradually divided into complex and harmonious law in human society.

The attention of artists for the properties of substances, existing form and spiritual transformation has entered into a very active historical experimental term. This is like the alchemists who have revived after death; we may find artistic charm is like magic power of “touching a stone and turning it into gold”, which reproduces unfailing vitality of the substances themselves.
